7 Minute Simple Makeup Routine [For Busy Mornings]
Are you looking for a simple makeup routine?
As a first-time mom, I’ve learned there aren’t enough hours in a day.
Fitting in self-care can be difficult, but it is so important to carve out some much-needed time for yourself.
My basic makeup routine takes less than 7 minutes and is perfect for both beginners and moms.
I’m able to fit it in while taking care of my little one and working a full-time job and so can you!
As you can see in the before and after, I still look like me (just a little more put together and seemingly well rested haha).
Now let’s get started with the steps for this simple makeup routine…

Simple Makeup Routine: Products
In my twenties (and even thirties), I loved applying and wearing makeup. The more steps the better!
A lot of my paycheck was spent at Sephora and Ulta buying all the latest and greatest products.
Now that I’m older and a mother, I find myself gravitating towards less is more.
These are the makeup products you will need for my simplified routine:
- Primer – Not everyone uses a primer, but I find using one helps my makeup apply smoother and last longer. (Used in video – Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer)
- Concealer – This is a must have for those nights when you don’t get much sleep and to cover up any discoloration from acne scars or redness. It should be in the same shade as your skin tone. (Used in video – Nars Soft Matte Concealer in shade Ginger)
- Invisible Setting powder – I use this to set my under eyes and then to set my entire face at the very end. (Used in video – e.l.f. Perfect Finish HD Powder)
- Eyebrow product – I microbladed my eyebrows many years back so there are some sparse patches. (Used in video – SKINFOOD Eyebrow Powder Cake in shade Grey Khaki Black) Other favorite – IT Cosmetics Brow Power Eyebrow Pencil
- Eyeliner – In my younger days, I only used black eyeliner, but I find it much too harsh now. Especially for daytime. (Used in video – Clinique Quickliner for Eyes in shade Intense Chocolate)
- Mascara – I’m still on the hunt for my holy grail mascara as my lashes are short and straight. (Used in video – Maybelline Sky High Mascara in shade Very Black) What makes the most difference for me is using this heated eyelash curler.
- Bronzer – This product does double duty. I use this as an eyeshadow as well as to contour my face. (Used in video – Hourglass Bronzer) Other favorites – Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer and Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer
- Blush – Blush really wakes up the face. I tend to use more peachy pink tones, but this is a personal preference. (Used in video – Hourglass Blush) Other favorites – Milani Baked Blush and Nars Blush
- Powder Foundation – For quick and easy makeup, I find powder foundation works best. It’s easy to apply, travels well and doesn’t require any drying time. (Used in video – Laura Gellar Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Powder Foundation in shade Golden Medium)
- Lip product – Again, this is personal preference. I would recommend choosing a more moisturizing product like a tinted lip balm as these will make your lips look healthy and fuller. They also tend to be easier to apply as you don’t have to be as precise. (Used in video – Dior Addict Lip Glow in shade Rosewood) Other favorites – NOONI Korean Lip Oil and Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm
Simple Makeup Routine: Application Steps
This makeup routine is great for newbies and anyone who doesn’t have a lot of time.
Many of the products can be used for more than one purpose and it doesn’t take too much technique to achieve a beautiful, finished look.
This video will show you step by step just how quick and easy this beginner makeup routine really is!
- Apply primer to your entire face including your eyelids. A pea size amount should be enough. I put it on the back of my hand, dot it all over and then rub it in.
- Fill in your eyebrows.
- Dot concealer wherever you need it. For me, that’s under the eyes, some old acne scars and then redness around my nose. Start with less product here. If you need more coverage, you can always add on another layer. You can apply it with a brush, sponge or even your fingers. Do what feels most comfortable for you!
- With a fluffy powder brush, lightly apply the invisible setting powder to any areas you placed concealer to set it in place.
- Dip a blending eyeshadow brush in your bronzer, tap off the excess and then apply to the crease of your eye in a windshield wiper motion. Then swipe a dense eyeshadow brush in the bronzer and run it underneath the eye. Repeat on the other side.
- Tightline (aka add eyeliner in between upper lashes and waterline) the upper lash line with eyeliner on both eyes. I also add some eyeliner to the other third of my upper eyelid and then smudge it out.
- Curl lashes with heated eyelash curler and apply mascara. I only do the upper lashes, but that’s my personal preference.
- Swirl kabuki brush in powder foundation and then buff it onto face and down the neck.
- Swipe an angled brush in bronzer and apply to the following areas: under the cheekbones, under the jawline and down the neck.
- Apply blush to apples of cheeks. I also put what’s remaining on my brush to the tip of my nose.
- Apply invisible setting powder over the entire face to blend it all together.
- Apply lip product to lips.
Final Thoughts on Makeup
As a mother with limited time or a makeup beginner who doesn’t know where to start, I understand how applying makeup can feel overwhelming.
The great thing is this make up routine can be customized to your personal preference.
Feel free to omit some of these steps or do it in another order that works for you.
Blush can come before bronzer and eye makeup can be applied after foundation.
I truly hope this simplified beginner makeup routine helps you look and feel your best because you deserve it!
